Client: College of Engineering & Computer Science, ANU
ANU appointed AMC to design and manage proposed refurbishment and upgrade works to the existing ground floor foyers of three of its existing Engineering and Computer Science buildings. These spaces were historically under-utilised, dated and uninspiring spaces. ANU sought to revitalise these key thoroughfares and ancillary spaces and provide improved student amenities.
To this end, AMC incorporated informal meeting, breakout, utility, locker, collaboration and study spaces within these foyer areas to promote student interaction and provide for a range of group and individual seating options and study activities. With a focus on flexibility, distinct zones are created through the use and extent of feature plasterboard and timber ceilings and strip lighting. A mixture of leather, timber and soft finishes were used in fixed and movable furniture and screening elements, designed to be hardwearing and create a contemporary and vibrant space for student studies.
