About the Project

Client: Iqon
Size: 6,100m² NLA
Cost: $14M
Date Completed: Commence Construction Late 2015

In late 2014 IQON approached AMC to assist them in proving up the master planning and economic feasibility of the development of the Googong North Village development which included the first supermarket, community and retail uses in this substantial regional development. The ultimate purpose of the first stage of the commission was assist IQON in its bid to be the preferred / selected tenderer in a process managed by the Mirvac / CIC joint venture.

Having succeeded in the first stage, AMC have been commissioned by IQON to develop what is a mixed-use development with a view to successfully integrating the high aspirations for the site by the developer Googong Township PTY LTD. Working closely with IQON and Queanbeyan City Council (QCC), AMC have been able to prove up the feasibility of the project and develop a masterplan arrangement and mix that is acceptable to all stakeholders.

This exciting mixed-use project in its ultimate form includes a supermarket, a childcare centre, community centre, allied health services, retail, cafes and bars, a gym and residential apartments.

The concept design objectives are to

  • Create active frontage to Gorman Drive while relieving the tension with the internal car park
  • Create a legible and inviting striking address for the development to Gorman Drive and Caragh Ave Corner
  • Take advantage of views to all sides but particularly to the east.
  • Respond to site microclimate and maximise good solar aspect
  • Allow for future adaptive reuse of some components of the development

The first stage of the project will be constructed in early 2016.
