December 2021 saw a flurry of activity across a number of sites to achieve completion prior to Christmas, including the Denman Village Community Centre at Denman Prospect. AMC was engaged by Capital Estate Development (CED) and Denman Village ELC to provide architectural and interior design services for the new Centre, which forms a key part of the Denman Village precinct. The architectural concept responds to the changing site levels and the need for an easy pedestrian connection with the public carpark. The architectural expression utilises contrasting materials, angled and curved geometry, folded roof forms and large expanses of glazing to create a striking built form that takes its cue from the adjacent shops, also designed by AMC. Skillfully constructed by Nikias Diamond, this high-quality development incorporates an early learning centre at ground level with a community centre located above, both of which benefit from expansive views and excellent solar orientation to create light-filled interiors and dynamic external gathering spaces. Internally, timber and natural stone materials are contrasted against off-form/precast concrete elements with coloured glazing elements adding a sense of fun and interest to playrooms.
Virtual Tour of Exciting New Refurbishment
Click on the above for a virtual tour of the exciting refurbishment works planned for 7 London Circuit, William Clements Street and 18 Marcus Clarke Street in Canberra City. AMC is very pleased to be working with ISPT, Knight Frank, TSA and Oculus to transform this commercial precinct through the use of targeted architectural interventions to create a more permeable, welcoming ground floor plane through the introduction of hospitality, health and wellbeing offerings, high quality end of trip facilities, façade and entry upgrades, integrated landscaping elements and interactive artwork. Construction works will commence in early 2022.
Access Canberra Service Centre, Belconnen
AMC is pleased to be partnering with PBS Building and Major Projects Canberra in the design and delivery of a new Access Canberra Service Centre in Belconnen. The design concept reflects the ACT Government’s “digital first, customer-centric model” and seeks to create a welcoming and legible customer service environment. Timber battens and acoustic screening elements throughout add warmth and interest and assist in providing visual and acoustic privacy for customer and service centre staff interactions. Integrated technology, feature lighting, stone counter tops and considered loose furniture selections introduce a contemporary feel enhanced by a colour palette that subtly references Access Canberra’s branding. Stay tuned for more updates!

AFP National Operations State Service Centre
Check out this time lapse video capturing the exciting transformation of the ageing AFP Operation Control Centre into the new National Operations State Service Centre (NOSSC) within the Edmund Barton Building in Canberra! Designed by AMC and constructed by Projex, the newly established NOSSC features two large format video walls, a raised Watch Floor, dedicated command and supervisory work areas and associated breakout and utility areas. A muted colour palette (inspired by AFP’s branding) is contrasted against the targeted use of timber battening, joinery and acoustic wall and ceiling panels which provide interest and warmth to open plan areas. The result is a reinvigorated, functional and agile working environment that facilitates improved collaboration, connectedness and centralises engagement between the AFP and its State & Territory and Commonwealth partners.
NAIDOC Week 2020
AMC is marking NAIDOC Week by acknowledging key projects and industry partners with indigenous connections as an opportunity to recognise the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The incorporation of Yarning Circles into workplaces is an important cultural connection with Australia’s indigenous heritage, providing an opportunity for informal collaboration, reflection and storytelling in a dedicated, relaxed space. AMC and Quay Building Group’s fitout of the Department of Education’s Yarning Room in Canberra showcases Aboriginal artwork, artefacts and upholstery fabric design and was recently a Finalist in the 2020 MBA ACT Awards. We also wish to acknowledge our construction industry partners with indigenous connections who play a vital role in the delivery of our projects.
