About the Project

Client: Australian Fisheries Management Authority
Size: 3,500m²
Cost: $7m
Date: 2007

Initially engaged by XACT Projects on behalf of the building owner, the Uniting Church, AMC were engaged to prepare a refurbishment strategy for 71 Northbourne Avenue, Civic. AMC prepared concept plans to demonstrate to AFMA management how the organisation might fit into a new city location over 3 floors. AFMA subsequently committed to the new building with a new 10 year lease and commissioned AMC to establish a detailed project brief, blocking and stacking alternatives and ultimately a detailed design for their new accommodation. The new move was seen as an opportunity to influence the culture of the organisation, to improve team-based work practices and to develop new more efficient space standards where open plan accommodation was fundamental to a new work point design. Public and built areas, including meeting rooms, offices and utility areas were located close to the core with open planned work areas fanning out to the building façade. With AFMA’s focus on Australia’s ocean areas, an appropriate finishes and colour palette and a number of compelling graphics were incorporated in strategic locations throughout the fitout.
