Client: Canberra Airport Group / Australian Cyber Security Centre
In early 2017, the Australian Government announced approval for the relocation of the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) from the Ben Chifley Building to Brindabella Business Park within the Canberra Airport precinct. This relocation formed an important part of the Government’s Cyber Security Strategy to foster collaboration between agencies and stronger engagement with business and academia to share information and counter cyber security threats. Canberra Airport Group engaged AMC in May 2017 for the design of a new A-Grade fitout and targeted refurbishment of the base building to accommodate ACSC in its new location and achieve completion within a restricted timeframe.
ACSC’s new headquarters incorporates a range of special purpose areas including laboratories, secure work areas, training facilities, collaboration hubs, conference suites and dedicated industry and academia engagement spaces. In addition to open plan work spaces and associated support spaces the fitout includes a new inter-tenancy glazed stair, attractive breakout spaces and a new entry, security office and reception area.
AMC combined natural timbers with a palette of pastel colours and charcoal with highlights of bright yellow to create a relaxed but sophisticated feel throughout. Exposed services and concrete soffits add interest and texture to corridors, breakouts and collaboration zones. The new glazed entry, security office and reception area is clad in a distinctive perforated steel cladding that functions as a visual screen and filters natural light into the internal spaces.
The first phase of the fitout was successfully completed in time for an official opening in June with the remainder of the works completed by December 2017 in line with the Centre’s relocation schedule from the Ben Chifley Building.
