In 2011, Comcare released its new Work Health and Safety Legislation and subsequently embarked on a process to set a new standard in workplace accommodation to reflect the organisation’s absolute commitment to improving the working environment for its employees. AMC provided architectural and project management services for a national roll out of six fit out projects for each of Comcare’s state offices across Australia.
Following an extensive consultation process, design guidelines were established and applied to all Comcare fit outs which ranged in size from 475m² to 8,000m². Key design principles included the elimination of almost all offices in favour of a modular and open-planned working environment designed to encourage casual interaction and to accommodate inevitable churn. Quiet rooms and informal meeting booths offer staff a variety of options for privacy or collaboration away from their workstations. The incorporation of electronically operated sit to stand workstations and standing meeting tables across the whole organisation, combined with rejuvenation and wellness rooms responded to Comcare’s focus on ergonomics, health and wellbeing within its workplaces. A fresh, vibrant colour scheme was developed by AMC, complimented by natural materials that adhered to Comcare’s commitment to ESD initiatives and a minimum NABERS rating of 4.5.
AMC and Comcare are immensely proud of each fit out completed to date. Comcare staff have responded positively to their new working environments with the introduction of sit to stand workstations being particularly popular. The project was recognized as the winner for the 2013 MBA Commercial & Retail Fitout, Refurbishment or Alteration More than $5M and a finalist in the 2013 RAIA Awards.
