Size: 19,350m² (224 Apartment Units)
The client, CHC Affordable Housing (CHC) is a not-for-profit development company that delivers affordable properties – for both sale and rent – to the ACT community. Established in 1997, CHC pride themselves on the quality of their developments and are dedicated to delivering well-located, functional and flexible housing options to both purchasers and renters alike.
Eclipse is a fully integrated mixed-use development that includes residential and commercial space. The complex includes 240 apartment units that were designed to target the affordable housing market. AMC have taken advantage of the northern aspect of site with lineal built forms. Eclipse address all three street frontages while offering an attractive central landscaped zone for use by all residents with its extensive lawn areas, BBQ areas and planter boxes. The built form combats the harsh winter winds and works with the slope of the site to create visual interest and discrete basement car parking.
Eclipse included 16 different residential typologies across the development to suit different needs and budgets including townhouses and one to four bedroom apartment units including adaptable and 2 storey loft-style units. Over 90% of the dwellings benefit from excellent northern solar aspect and ground level apartments have generous courtyard spaces as an extension of the primary living areas. A modular approach to unit design ensured construction efficiencies and ultimately a significant number of affordable dwellings. Specifically placing a variety of 2-storey apartment unit types on the corners of apartment blocks has ensured a striking architectural expression to all street frontages.
