About the Project

Client: Shape
Size: 722m²
Cost: 3.6M

The recent refurbishment of the Paediatrics High Care Ward at The Canberra Hospital, by AMC and Shape, has given this critical facility a new lease on life for staff, patients and families alike. Improved functionality and circulation flows were key objectives for this project which were achieved through the centralisation of new staff work areas and increased visibility across the 12-bed ward assisted by the installation of “switch” glass throughout.

Reconfigurations allowed for the addition of two extra bedrooms and improvements to “pressure rooms”, enhancing treatment and family support. A playful approach to the design of new vinyl flooring is complemented by vibrant wall art (by children’s book illustrator Freya Blackwood) and an improved external break out zone, introducing an element of fun and creativity for children and their families.
