Since 2000, some of AMC’s most rewarding projects have been the reuse of old, unloved or out-dated buildings and no more so than with residential alterations and additions commissions. Old buildings tend to have a soul – a sense of history and place which give immediate legitimacy to the new works. With 4 years working in a design and construct residential building company early in his career, Alastair MacCallum developed a high level of expertise in the design of residential alterations and additions projects culminating in the HIA National Home Improvement of the Year award in 2000. The AMC team have a compressive understanding of the authority planning framework and a proven ability with neighbour consultation to ensure that the design solution leads to a smooth planning approval process. With 5 heritage awards, AMC is respectful to existing buildings but not afraid to consciously contrast the new with the old. AMC are able to quickly ascertain the strengths and weaknesses in the siting, layout and structure of an existing residence to establish an overall masterplan strategy for cost effective and efficient change. We prefer to work with clients from project inception right through to the ultimate delivery of the project underpinned by comprehensive construction documentation and administration of the building contract.
