Size: 2,558m² (32 Apartment Units)
Date: 2012 – 2013
The project brief was to design a well-appointed and attractive medium density residential development that would appeal to the young medical professionals who may wish to live close to Canberra Hospital. The development includes 32 apartment units with a mix of Studio, 1 and 2 bedroom apartment units. Creating an interesting built form, that also breaks up the scale of the development along with the provision of a clear and legible address, were key to the design concept. The masterplan arrangement incorporates an efficient approach to site planning and indeed individual apartment unit planning. . Maximising northern solar aspect and outlook of most units has resulted in a building that is divided into two distinct wings with an asymmetrical entry foyer arrangement and associated expressed blade wall.
White painted cement render and a metallic panel have been selected to give a modern and refined feel to the project. The incorporation of face brickwork to the ground level forms a base /plinth to the building, which then wraps up through the upper two floors of the building at the main entry. The building core / foyer arrangement includes full height glazing and a three storey void which brings natural light in while affording as strong identity to the main entry.
