Respite Facility

With a focus on providing purpose-designed respite care facilities for young people suffering from terminal or chronic illnesses as an alternative to aged care accommodation, Respite Care for QBN sought to establish a new dedicated Respite Centre in Queanbeyan.  The facility is fully accessible and includes six large bedrooms with a common lounge/dining area and associated support areas. The single storey centre features folded roof forms, timber and masonry elements and sits comfortably within its residential setting. Excellent solar orientation and the incorporation of clerestory glazing ensures internal spaces will be homely, bright and airy with views to landscaped gardens and an external common area. Considered level changes, landscaping features and external shading devices provide privacy to internal spaces. The realisation of this initiative will see the fulfillment of Founder Yvonne Cuschieri’s vision and determination to establish a high-quality respite care facility in Queanbeyan which will be a centre of excellence for the support of carers, family members and their loved ones.
