Acton Emergency Services Station
This new joint emergency services facility was designed for ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Ambulance Services to service the Canberra City and surrounding regions. Originally designed by Guida Moseley Brown, it is designed to integrate the latest emergency services technology including Australia’s first plug-in hybrid electric fire truck.
Upon our engagement, AMC undertook an extensive consultation with key stakeholder and community groups to further refine and develop the design to improve the quality of the operational environment and support a positive integration of two emergency services within a single facility.
The new station incorporates administrative areas, operational infrastructure, living quarters for staff and crew in the form of dormitory-style sleeping accommodation, training rooms, fitness room and internal vehicle washdown bays.
The site is situated at the base of Black Mountain and has some challenging constraints included a steep gradient to Lake Burley Griffin, stringent bushfire attack level requirements and a complex integration with the existing traffic network.
As the Lead Design Consultant, AMC managed a large team of specialist consultants and contractors to deliver this new benchmark facility within a critical and restricted design and construction programme.
