AMC was commissioned by CSIRO to deliver a new 1,500m² Field Support with a separate secured enclosure for vehicle storage and a covered washdown bay at its Black Mountain Campus in the ACT. The Facility forms a key part of CSIRO’s ACT Site Consolidation Project as well as the broader Masterplan for the Black Mountain Campus and provides amenities, storage, vehicle storage and processing facilities for staff undertaking field studies.

AMC led and facilitated an extensive stakeholder engagement process to prepare a comprehensive Return Brief to capture the accommodation requirements for the storage and processing functions associated with a broad range of critical field-based research projects. AMC set out to design an efficient and functional facility that would accommodate multiple user groups and workflows. Due to the complex nature of the site and brief requirements, AMC led and managed a large team of consultants to deliver a fully coordinated outcome. Despite numerous site constraints, including a large electrical easement to the north, above ground powerlines and several remnant eucalypt trees, the design team was able to conceive of a solution that is not only functional, but also aesthetically pleasing. The building expresses itself as an unpretentious linear form, that creates a simple but strong presentation to Barry Drive sitting low amongst the mature native landscape.
