Pivotal to the success of the Denman Village Shops development, is a new world-class supermarket which anchors the mixed-use precinct and has become a shopping destination in its own right. The supermarket offers unique, exceptional fresh produce to the Molonglo Valley within an inviting and high-quality setting. Underpinned by a pragmatic and discrete servicing strategy, the supermarket’s rectangular tenancy is buried deep within the building to ensure an active retail frontage for a range of other offerings including a chemist, café, allied health centre and gastro pub, amongst others. The inviting and voluminous entry foyer is accessed from a central recessed plaza featuring high-quality landscaping and public seating around a contemporary art installation designed by ANU Fine Arts Student, Naomi Taylor Royds. Noting the compact entry arrangement, fresh food displays are arranged to present strongly to the entry plaza, complemented by natural/warm floor materials, ceiling treatments and a vibrant signage strategy. The finishes palette takes its cue from the off-form concrete and semi-industrial architectural character, offset by black powdercoat shelving, feature tiling, custom signage, copper rails and extensive use of timber elements throughout. Elements such as base building services were meticulously detailed to be fully integrated into the design aesthetic. A feature glazed stairwell / lift volume adjacent to the entry, creates an evocative built form that augments the pedestrian experience and provides a connection to the townhouses on the upper level podium.  Officially opened in January 2019 the supermarket has already become a destination for Denman Village residents as well as discerning shoppers from further afield who value exceptional fresh produce and an enjoyable shopping experience.
