The Master Builders Association ACT (MBA) and the Land Development Agency (LDA) partnered with Renaissance Homes and AMC to design and deliver a new Charity House Project in Deakin. The LDA contributed two adjoining separate title in-fill parcels of land in Deakin and MBA members, led by Renaissance Homes and AMC, donated (or provided at low cost) professional consultancy services, construction materials and labour costs. As the third Charity House Project of this type, the 2015-16 offering delivered, for the first time, two home and land packages to market for auction.  More than $2m net proceeds from the auctions were distributed amongst 9 local charities supporting people with a disability including Boundless Children’s Playground, Hands Across Canberra, Hartley Lifecare, Early Morning Centre, Salvation Army and others.  The AMC design concept explored 2 very different dwelling types – a single storey dwelling, designed to Gold LHA standards for the burgeoning downsizers market and a two-storey, 5 bedroom dwelling designed for a young family. Both dwellings incorporate a palette of materials which sit comfortably in the Deakin context but with contemporary architectural forms.
