AMC was initially engaged by Belconnen Magpies Football Club (BMFC) to prepare a concept design for a new sports pavilion and upgrade of Kippax No. 1 Oval, to support its submission for funding to the ACT Government.  AMC was subsequently engaged to develop and document the design for the new pavilion which comprises player changerooms, rehabilitation rooms, umpire rooms, public toilets, and a large social room with a full and spectacular view of the playing surface. The pavilion also includes tiered, covered seating for approximately 150 spectators. The refurbishment of the oval involved a new playing surface as well as new irrigation and drainage systems. The project was endorsed by the AFL, with the floor plan of the pavilion satisfying their standard pavilion requirements. The building was constructed from a resilient palette of materials to ensure the longevity of the structure and minimise any susceptibility to vandalism. Architecturally, the building has a simple symmetrical form, with a striking cantilevered roof ensuring the building sits comfortably in its setting while offering excellent weather protection to patrons. The success of the project is a reflection of the commitment and hard work of the BMFC and the willingness of the ACT Government to partner with committed sporting organisations to provide excellent facilities for the benefit of the sporting clubs and the local community.
