Construction Control commissioned AMC to work with DJAS to design and deliver this significant project within Canberra Airport, which involved the construction of an additional runway apron, an aircraft maintenance hangar, hangar workshops and offices, and a VIP reception terminal. The maintenance hangar has an impressive clear span of over 90m, a height of over 25m, and is capable of housing all five Commonwealth Government RAAF VIP aircraft at the one time. The two storey hangar annex accommodates the administrative and workshop functions of the facility. As a modern and contemporary building it sits comfortably in its surrounds through the incorporation of white aluminium panels to the offices and red steel cladding to workshops, reflecting the red brickwork banding of the adjacent heritage-listed hangars. The VIP reception centre serves as the arrival and departure point for resident and visiting dignitaries. It provides check-in and baggage handling facilities, food preparation facilities for in-flight catering, and reception lounges for both VIPs and travelling media.
